Summary

  • WILKO ASTM B75 Tubes are standard Specification for Seamless Copper Tube for general engineering applications. They may be either round, square, or rectangular in profiles
  • These pipes are manufactured using pure copper deoxidized with phosphorus, leaving relatively high residual phosphorus content. They are readily available in both hard drawn or soft annealed temper.
  • Coils are normally in soft annealed temper while straight lengths in hard drawn temper.
  • Very versatile specification with wide ranging applications spanning across various industries.
  • WILKO ASTM B75 Tubes are made of top quality material and tested to ensure optimum performance

Introduction:

ASTM B75 is a standard specification established by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) that outlines the requirements for seamless copper tubes suitable for general engineering purposes. These tubes find extensive use in various industries such as plumbing, HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), refrigeration, and automotive applications. Understanding ASTM B75 is essential for manufacturers, engineers, and professionals involved in the production and utilization of copper tubes.

Types of Copper Tubes Covered:

ASTM B75 encompasses a broad range of copper tubes, each designed to meet specific requirements for different applications:
  1. Plumbing, Hot/Cold Water System: These types are commonly used for plumbing, heating, and cooling systems. They vary in wall thickness, with Type K having the thickest walls suitable for underground installations, Type L with medium thickness for above-ground applications, and Type M with thinner walls typically used in residential plumbing.
  2. Refrigeration Tubes: ASTM B75 also covers copper tubes specifically designed for refrigeration systems, where they are utilized for conveying refrigerants in both commercial and residential cooling applications.
  3. Air Conditioning Tubes: Copper tubes meeting the requirements of ASTM B75 are widely used in air conditioning systems for their excellent heat transfer properties and durability.

Key Specifications:

  • Dimensions: ASTM B75 specifies the nominal sizes, outside diameters, wall thicknesses, and lengths of copper tubes. These dimensions vary depending on the type and application of the tube.
  • Tolerances: The standard outlines acceptable variations in dimensions, ensuring uniformity and quality in manufacturing.
  • Chemical Composition: ASTM B75 mandates the chemical composition of the copper used in manufacturing tubes, ensuring they meet specific purity and quality standards. Copper, as the primary material, should meet certain requirements for composition and impurity levels.
  • Testing and Quality Control: The specification includes requirements for testing methods to verify compliance with dimensional, chemical, and mechanical properties. These tests are crucial for maintaining quality and consistency in production.

Benefits of ASTM B75 Copper Tubes:

  1. Excellent Heat Transfer: Copper has superior thermal conductivity, making ASTM B75 tubes ideal for applications requiring efficient heat transfer, such as HVAC and refrigeration systems.
  2. Corrosion Resistance: Copper exhibits excellent corrosion resistance, ensuring longevity and reliability in various environments.
  3. Versatility: With different types available, ASTM B75 copper tubes cater to a wide range of applications, offering versatility and flexibility to engineers and designers.
  4. Ease of Installation: Copper tubes are relatively easy to work with, allowing for straightforward installation, bending, and joining techniques, thereby reducing labor costs and installation time.

Conclusion:

WILKO ASTM B75 copper tubes are integral components in numerous industries due to their reliability, durability, and exceptional performance characteristics. By adhering to the standards outlined in ASTM B75, WILKO ensures that their copper tubes meet stringent requirements, providing peace of mind to engineers, contractors, and end-users alike.
